Costa Mesa baseball disappointed as Division 6 title slips away

RIVERSIDE — Costa Mesa couldn’t have devised a better start to its first CIF Southern Section baseball final in 57 years, pushing home four runs before Rio Hondo Prep came to bat.
Not much went the Mustangs’ way from there. Four errors fueled seven runs in the first two innings, and Costa Mesa played catch-up the rest of the way without quite catching up, dropping a 9-7 decision Saturday in the Division 6 title game at UC Riverside.
