Coronavirus: Food insecurity in Orange County rises as lockdown enters second month

The first COVID-19 drive-through food distribution held in Costa Mesa was executed this week with precision and speed.
On Thursday, 150 volunteers were needed to load boxes and bags packed with shelf-stable items and fresh produce into the trunks of 1,200 vehicles that snaked through an otherwise empty IKEA parking lot. Each car, van, SUV and truck represented a family that needed food because of the massive unemployment that’s come since stay-at-home orders were set in place a month ago.
