Bullet train boondoggle keeps chugging

Foes of the California’s High-Speed Rail project were heartened when Gov. Gavin Newsom in his State of the State address last February called for “trimming” it back to a simple Central Valley route. Newsom said the project, “which has ballooned in price from $45 billion to $77 billion, is out of control.” Newsom was right. But he made a fatal error.
