Breeders’ Cup: Mitole rallies to claim Sprint

ARCADIA — Jockey Ricardo Santana Jr. stood up in the saddle in celebration after guiding Mitole to a come-from behind victory in the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Sprint at Santa Anita on Saturday.
Mitole, the 9-5 second choice in the wagering, kept alive his chances for Horse of the Year with his sixth victory in seven 2019 starts, including four Grade I stakes. The 4-year-old Eskendereya colt beat pacesetter Shancelot, the 3-2 favorite, by 1 1/4 lengths.
