Best thing I ate: Japanese barbecue mushrooms

Nobody goes to a Japanese barbecue restaurant for the vegetables. This is just a fact. If you find yourself eating Japanese barbecue, it’s because you like meat.
And if you like Japanese Wagyu, the richly marbled beef at Tsuruhashi in Fountain Valley is some of the best in that genre. But it was something else on the menu at Tsuruhashi that made my recent meal here particularly memorable: mushrooms.
