Barnes remains on track to avoid run-off in sheriff’s race

Orange County Undersheriff Don Barnes remains on track to be voted in as the new sheriff, but only by the slimmest of margins as election workers continued to tally uncounted ballots.
With Barnes sitting on a 50.7 percent the total vote, county officials said late Wednesday that 167,202 ballots remain to be counted — enough that the election remains too close to declare Barnes a majority winner.
