Angels designate Matt Harvey for assignment

SEATTLE — The Angels ended the Matt Harvey experiment on Friday, designating the veteran pitcher for assignment seven months and a day after they signed him to a one-year contract.
Harvey, 30, an All-Star early in his career with the New York Mets, never provided the value the Angels hoped for after they signed him to an $11 million salary in the offseason. He went 3-5 with a 7.09 earned-run average. He allowed six runs Thursday in his latest start, a 6-2 loss to the Houston Astros.
