Angels acquire closer Jim Johnson from Braves
The Angels bolstered their bullpen by acquiring veteran closer Jim Johnson from the Atlanta Braves on Thursday in exchange for a lightly regarded minor league pitcher.
Johnson, 34, was an All-Star in 2012, his first of back-to-back 50-save seasons with the Baltimore Orioles. Last year he saved 22 games, but posted a 5.56 ERA. He still struck out 61 batters in 56 2/3 innings, which is likely one of the main reasons the Angels are hoping for a bounceback. His career ERA is 3.79.
