The young man sat off-stage wearing a dark checkered suit, a gray-striped necktie and a pink shirt with a white collar. Rob Manfred, the commissioner of Major League Baseball, stood at center stage and announced his name on live television. Immediately his family cheered, his dad gave him a big hug, and the young man slipped out of his suit and into a Cincinnati Reds jersey. For a moment, he resembled a bona fide big leaguer.
