A society of cheaters

“No fair! Cheater!”
It’s been shouted by kids on every schoolyard and during every rainy-day game of Scrabble, Clue and Candyland since time immemorial. The cheating chant prompts parents and schoolyard proctors to offer the stock admonition, “Winners never cheat and cheaters never win.”
But cheaters do win. Sometimes they win bigly. And kids know cheaters win. It’s one of the first lessons we learn: that life is not always fair.
