73 re-opens hours after fatal crash in Irvine

The southbound lanes of the 73 highway re-opened late Thursday night, 10 hours after it was closed when a truck slammed into a Caltrans vehicle, according to the California Highway Patrol, killing the 30-year-old driver of the truck who was from Southgate.
Authorities said it’s unknown why the truck’s driver moved into the median area where the Caltrans grader and crews were stopped making repairs at about 1 p.m., just south of Bison Avenue.
