11 sea lion rescues in nine days has Pacific Marine Mammal Center scrambling amid coronavirus shutdown

In just nine days, rescues teams from the Pacific Marine Mammal Center responded to 11 dying and starving sea lions, while its own resources were depleted by the stay-at-home orders meant to contain the spread of the coronavirus.
The teams that typically go out in groups of four to five have been cut to one or two. Recent beach crowds also posed a hazard to rescuers and lifeguards in Dana Point and Huntington Beach had to intervene when crowds got too close to struggling marine mammals.
