Timberon Fire now 40 percent contained, 44 dwellings destroyed

OTERO COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – Friday is day three of the fire in the small mountain town of Timberon south of Cloudcroft, and many residents still cannot get back into their homes — if they’re lucky enough to still have one.
Fire officials announced Saturday the Timberon Fire is now 40 percent contained and has burned 268 acres. The fire is now in mop-up stage. Crews Saturday are treating hot-spots and removing hazard trees within the burn area. The perimeter lines cont
