Strong winds and mountain snow continue

Temperatures and wind gusts are picking up across New Mexico today. While the warmer temperatures won't be sticking around for very long, the winds will.
A jet max is moving over New Mexico tonight. This max is combining with strong westerly flow over the state. The result is strong wind gusts, particularly in eastern New Mexico. The reason for the location of the strong winds is the mountains. The winds are forced up and over the mountains. As the wind comes down the other side it accelerates.
