Residents celebrate retention pond completion in Belen

CARLSBAD, N.M. (KRQE) –Relief is coming to an area that has struggled with flooding for years.
A celebration was held Wednesday for the completion of a retention pond off I-25 in Belen.
That area and the neighborhoods downstream have flooded year after year during heavy rains, leaving people to shovel out mud and water from their businesses and homes.
One of the biggest messes was back in 2006.
