Portales man is indicted for 1st-degree murder, kidnapping
PORTALES, N.M. (AP) – A man has been indicted in the death of another Portales resident who authorities say was held captive, burned and beaten.
Prosecutors announced Friday that a Roosevelt County grand jury indicted 40-year-old David Smith on charges of first-degree murder, kidnapping and two counts of tampering with evidence.
Smith is jailed without bond and prosecutors say he will be arraigned within 15 days.
Authorities say 45-year-old William Vaughn went to Smith’s home on Nov.
