Plague spreading around in Santa Fe pets

SANTA FE, NM (KRQE) – Police are warning that plague has been confirmed in some pets in Santa Fe. Investigators believe the animals were exposed to at La Tierra Trails, located North of NM 599 and the Frank Ortiz Dog Park.
Police say plague can be fatal to both pets and humans if not properly diagnosed and treated. It can be spread through fleas and contact with infected animals such as rodents, rabbits and cats.
