Oklahoma earthquake raises questions on its wastewater disposal

PAWNEE, Okla. (KRQE) – A record-tying earthquake near Oklahoma’s main energy-producing areas is bringing attention to the practice of disposing oil and gas-field wastewater deep underground.
The 5.6-magnitude quake shook north-central Oklahoma Saturday morning in an area where regulators have been looking into limiting wastewater disposal.
Experts have found a link between an increase in magnitude 3.0 earthquakes and underground wastewater disposal.
