Northern New Mexico city gets first female mayor

LAS VEGAS, N.M. (AP) – Voters in Las Vegas have made history by electing Tonita Gurule-Giron as the northern New Mexico community’s first female mayor.
The Las Vegas Optic reports that 23 votes separated Gurule-Giron from former councilman Joseph Herrera in Tuesday’s runoff election. The results were being canvassed Thursday.
