‘North Fire’ increases to 7,604 acres

MAGDALENA, N.M. (KRQE) – The North Fire burning in the San Mateo Mountains has grown 7,604 acres.
Fire officials say the North Fire is being actively managed by 129 personnel and is 20 percent contained.
The fire was sparked by lightning Saturday, May 21, and continues to burn Ponderosa Pine, mixed-conifer, grass and brush. Smoke from the fire can be seen from I-25 and U.S. Highway 60.
A temporary closure order has been issued for the areas surrounding the fire.
