NMDOT apologizes for traffic mess on I-25

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – It was a very unpleasant surprise for drivers on I-25 Saturday. The freeway turned into a parking lot for part of the day and DOT says it was their mistake.
Southbound I-25 from Bernalillo to Albuquerque is normally smooth sailing on a Saturday but not this Saturday. The backup started around 11:30 in the morning.
NMDOT had two lanes closed to install traffic monitoring devices but that left some waiting on the freeway for more than an hour in traffic.
