Lighnting sparked ‘Black Fire’ burning in Gila National Forest

SILVER CITY, N.M. (KRQE) – A lightning strike ignited fire is burning 167 acres on the southern slope of Black Peak on the Silver City Ranger District.
The Black Fire is the result of a “hold over” or “sleeper” tree that was struck by lightning during a lightning storm Saturday, according to Gila National Forest officials.
