Judge: Omaree Varela’s mother competent to stand trial

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The wait to determine if Synthia Varela-Casaus, the woman accused and charged with kicking to death her 9-year-old son Omaree, will go to trial is over.
A judge has deemed Varela-Casaus competent to stand trial more than two years after Omaree’s death. A scheduling conference is set for March 2nd to determine a trial date.
