Group of firefighters honored for efforts during motel fire

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A group of firefighters were honored by the mayor Friday for their quick response to a motel fire.
An arsonist set fire to the Desert Sands Motel back in May.
When firefighters arrived, smoke and flames had consumed the first floor of the motel, trapping several dozen people.
Using ladders, firefighters rescued people from a second story window making sure everyone got out safely.
