Grants tree removal decreases transient camps, trash dumping

GRANTS, N.M. (AP) – Officials say an ongoing tree removal project in the northwestern New Mexico city of Grants has cut down on illegal trash dumping and transient camps.
The Gallup Independent reports that Mayor Martin “Modey” Hicks says illegal dumping within Grants city limits has practically stopped since the city began removing salt cedars. He says transients who camp among the invasive plants have been driven out as the cover is removed.
