California wildfire now 40% contained

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (AP) – Thousands of California residents chased from their mountain and desert homes are slowly beginning to take stock of their losses from the wildfire that erupted 60 miles east of Los Angeles.
Firefighters now have the fire 40 percent contained and more people are being allowed to return home.
Crews expect to make good progress against the fire again today. Plans are underway to demobilize some of the nearly 1,600 firefighters.
Officials say 96 homes have been de
