Additional grants sought to cleanup massive tire hoard

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Crews have removed thousands of tires but it’s just a small dent in the mess. Last month, inmates on community custody removed more than 23,600 tires from the property of A.B. Swanson in the Rio Puerco.
It’s estimated that Swanson has hoarded up to 380,000 tires. The county used a $62,000 grant from the state environment department to begin the removal.
