CMS Moves to Close the Tardive Dyskinesia Screening Gap
By Gina ShawFor the first time in any Medicare quality program, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is formally encouraging clinicians to screen Medicare patients on antipsychotics for tardive dyskinesia (TD), a condition that affects an estimated 20% to 30% of long-term antipsychotic users but remains substantially underdiagnosed in routine practice (J Clin Psychiatry 2017;78[3]:e264-e278).The change is contained in the Calendar Year (CY) 2026 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule
