US stocks fall on global growth worries; Caterpillar slumps

NEW YORK (AP) — U.S. stocks slumped in early afternoon trading Thursday on further evidence that global growth is slowing. Industrial stocks dropped after Caterpillar cut its revenue forecast, blaming a downturn in the mining industry. Health care stocks also fell sharply.
