Unusual GOP pushback grows against upcoming Texas execution

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — The scheduled execution of a Texas man who didn't pull the trigger during a fatal 1996 robbery is drawing highly unusual opposition from Republicans, led by a staunchly conservative lawmaker who said Friday that a bipartisan group of legislators will ask the state to spare the life of Jeffery Lee Wood.
