Pope rubs elbows with Washington homeless

Trading pomp for poverty, Pope Francis mingled and shook hands Thursday with homeless and low-income people at a charity dining hall. The pope smiled broadly as he was literally mobbed at the Catholic Charities facility at the parish of St. Patrick in Washington. The pope is known to be fond of close-up contact with the poor as part of his emphasis on focusing the church on day-to-day social problems.
