James Alan McPherson, prize-winning author, dead at 72

NEW YORK (AP) — James Alan McPherson, author of the Pulitzer Prize-winning story collection "Elbow Room" and a longtime faculty member at the University of Iowa's prestigious Writers' Workshop, has died.
