Wates beats McAlpine to £111m Victoria Tower restoration

Wates has taken the iconic job to restore and carry out fire upgrade work to the Palace of Westminster’s grade I listed Victoria Tower.
The firm beat rival Sir Robert McAlpine, which previously completed similar work to the Elizabeth Tower, with a bid of £110.6m.
The initial contest to restore Parliaments tallest building got underway in March last year but had to be called off because of a procurement blunder.
