Truss resigns – new PM to start next week

Liz Truss announced her resignation as prime minister today after just 44 days in power following weeks of political and financial turmoil.
She said she could not deliver her promised mandate of low tax and high growth at a time of “great economic and international instability.”
A leadership election will be held within the next week and Truss will remain as prime minister until a successor is chosen.
