Piling starts on pioneering double composite HS2 viaduct
HS2’s EKFB joint venture has started piling work on the pioneering low-carbon Wendover Dean Viaduct project that aims to more than halve the amount of embedded carbon in the structure.
At 450m-long, the viaduct will be the first major railway bridge in the UK to be built with a ‘double composite’ structure, using significantly less carbon-intensive concrete and steel in comparison to a more traditional design.
