Cash boost to accelerate Transpennine Route Upgrade work

The government has agreed a £3.9bn funding boost to accelerate rail construction work on the Transpennine Route Upgrade project.
Once complete, the full route will offer significantly improved services on the route between Manchester-Huddersfield-Leeds-York with rail users benefiting from a fully-electrified line, accessible stations and more frequent services.
Work is already well underway on the project and today’s announcement means government has invested a total of £6.9bn
