Call grows for bolder 18m second staircase rule for flats
A coalition of industry professional bodies including the Chartered Institute of Building have joined fire chiefs in calling on the Government to introduce the second staircase rule to 18m tall buildings and above rather than the 30m being proposed.
The Government went out to industry consultation late last year on its plan to force developers to design in second staircases in all new housing blocks rising to around 10 storeys (30m) and above.
