Judy Linn on Bohemia, Suburbia, and Composing a Memorable Photograph

Judy Linn is a real photographer, not—to use that dubious epithet—an “artist who uses photography.” She engages the world with an uncomplicated camera, shoots what she sees, and prints her images straight. Best known for the pictures she took of Patti Smith, Robert Mapplethorpe, and other New York bohemians between 1969 and 1976, when they were all just kids, she has since produced a body of work that is greatly varied, subtle, and complex.
