Are Art Museums Racist?
On March 23, critic and curator Maurice Berger died of complications related to COVID-19. Much of his work focused on racial justice in the art world. In 2004, he organized “White: Whiteness and Race in Contemporary Art” at the International Center of Photography in New York,” exploring how artists examined, or exploited, racial privilege. He wrote a column for Lens, a photography blog published by the New York Times, on the social and political contexts of compelling images. H
