Oil gains on report of OPEC production freeze plan

Crude oil futures surged almost three per cent Monday following a report in the Wall Street Journal that said some OPEC members had called for a production freeze. Oil futures were up $1.20 US to $43 US a barrel just before 11 a.m. ET in New York trading. The energy group led the Toronto Stock Exchange solidly higher.
