No more ‘sequester’: Can Obama’s budget gambit work?

President Obama wants to get rid of the “sequester” – the automatic, across-the-board spending cuts to the federal budget that started in 2013. The economy is growing and deficits are down, and the time for “mindless austerity” has ended, the White House says. Instead, Mr. Obama will propose increases in both domestic and military spending to the tune of $74 billion, or 7 percent, above the existing spending caps. Many Republicans also don’t like the sequester.
