The world’s loudest birds squawk as loud as a jackhammer

Two new contenders for the title of world’s loudest bird are flocking into the record books—the bare-throated bellbird (Procnias nudicollis) and red-legged seriema (Cariama cristata). The findings are detailed in a study published today in the journal Evolution, and mark another stage in its authors’ quest to understand how evolution shapes bird communication.
