Meta and YouTube Found Negligent in Landmark Social Media Trial
In a landmark ruling, a jury in Los Angeles found Meta, the parent company of Instagram, along with Google’s YouTube, negligent in a case that accused the companies of designing their apps to be addictive and harmful to children. Jurors awarded $6 million, including punitive damages, to a now 20-year-old woman who says she became depressed after using Instagram since the age of nine. NBC’s Laura Jarrett reports for TODAY.
