Did a Nobel Laureate spark the obesity epidemic?

The old discussions about the causes of obesity are becoming lame. Certainly it is true that societies are gravitating to large serving sizes, that processed food lacks specific micronutrients and we exercise a lot less. However do these factors adequately explain the worldwide epidemic that is obesity? Why is happening in the developing world as well as the developed?
