Bruno Mars delivers old-school cool

There's good reason so many old-school funkateers have latched onto Bruno Mars: No other modern superstars have pledged such allegiance to the heyday of '70s R&B, and nobody else is bringing that sound into the Garden for two nights anytime soon. Before a packed and screaming house last night, Mars sounded above all like a guy who's learned his lessons well - devoting the first third of the set to funk throwdowns, the second to midtempo romantic numbers and the third to heavier rockers.
