Skip the Needle and Sistas in the Pit: The two bands, both featuring guitarist Shelley Doty and rapper-turned-bassist Kofy Brown, deliver high-energy blends of rock and funk performed "black-girl style." Skip the Needle also includes singer-guitarist-percussionist Vicki Randle, formerly of "The Tonight Show" band and presently with Mavis Staples.
