Arts & Ends: Renovation to help Mexican roots music bloom
The East Bay band Los Cenzontles celebrates its 25th anniversary at Yoshi's on Jan. 8 with David Hidalgo of Los Lobos, with whom the group has made five recordings. Monsignor Antonio Valdivia , a retired East Bay pastor who grew up in West Oakland, was the parish priest at St. Cornelius in Richmond 15 years ago when he blessed the new San Pablo Avenue home of Los Cenzontles , the thriving Mexican roots music and dance center that christened its expanded new facility early this month.
