Tainted lettuce in US sickens 98

An outbreak of E. coli bacteria in romaine lettuce has almost doubled in size over the past week, sickening 98 people in 22 states, US health officials said on Friday.No deaths have been reported but 46 people have been hospitalized, including 10 suffering from kidney failure, said the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.The outbreak is the largest in the United States since 2006, when spinach tainted with a similar strain of E. coli sickened more than 200 people.
