Mazda’s next Skyactiv engines may ditch spark plugs in a bid to improve efficiency

Mazda will introduce a production homogeneous-charge compression ignition (HCCI) engine in 2018, according to a new report. HCCI promises efficiency improvements, but has never been used in a production car.
