Over 2,000 years ago the library of Alexandria was one of humanity's greatest repositories of data, but the technology it used to store this precious resource - papyrus and ink - was prey to the decay of time and the vicissitudes of human affairs. Today, we have a far more robust system in place to store and access data – computer servers.
